The Gambia holds workshop to review progress of the country's education sector plan

In line with the country's education sector strategic plan, the Ministry of basic and secondary education in the Gambia organized a workshop with development partners and stakeholders to review the programs, progress and challenges of the education sector. A great avenue for program monitoring and evaluation, the workshop also served as an opportunity to introduce an upcoming project co-financed by the World Bank and GPE to replace the current strategic plan.

Though the government has made great strides in expanding enrollment and gender balance in schools, there remains a funding gap in the education sector. The ministry will take the lead in trying to mobilize additional resources, with financing from the World Bank and GPE in 2018 expected to be up to US$35 million.
